Feb 19, 2016 (newstodate): Summing up from Sweden's three main cargo airports: two good news, one not-so-good news make a total of fairly good news as for volumes handled in 2015.
The two good news are significant increases in cargo volumes at Stockholm Airport and Malmoe Airport where volumes increased by 6.3 and 17.7 percent, y-o-y, respectively.
Stockholm Airport thus handed a total of 147,612 tonnes of cargo while volumes at Malmoe Airport reached 29,341 tonnes.
-The increase at Stockholm Airport was due to more intercontinental routes, an increase in frequency from two to three weekly freighter flights by Korean Air as well as TNT's new set-up from August 2015 - all well-received in the market, says Ylva Arvidsson, Swedavia Director Cargo.
-Development at Malmoe Airport has also been brisk throughout the year, with growing capacity provided by AirBridgeCargo as well as quite a number of ad-hoc freighter operations.
Developments at Gothenburg Airport, once leading in cargo in Sweden, were not quite so good as the airport saw volumes down by 16.3 percent, y-o-y, to 57,046 tonnes.
-Comparing H1 2014 with H1 2015 in tricky as Gothenburg Airport still had all-cargo operations during that period in 2014, but not in 2015. Comparing H2 in 2014 and 2015 make better sense, and in this case the decline in 2015 is actually only about two percent, y-o-y, says Ms Arvidsson.
In total, the three airport thus handled 233,999 tonnes of cargo in 2015 which is an increase by 0.9 percent.
Of this total, exports were 123,778 tonnes, an increase by 3.2 percent, y-o-y, while imports at 110,221 tonnes were down 1.6 percent in 2015.
Swedavia's figures comprise only the handling of flown cargo into and from the airports.
According to IATA's CASS statistics for Sweden's export volumes in 2015, the market was down 5.39 percent, y-o-y, to 96,381 tonnes.
