Feb 11, 2016 (newstodate): Exporters of live king crabs to the Asian markets have found a new direct venue of transportation.
With the first operation on January 14, 2016, the Norwegian freight forwarder Air Cargo Logistics has managed a series of direct freighter flights from Lakselv Banak Airport to Seoul, South Korea, using a chartered TU-204C aircraft from the Russian carrier Aviastar.
The freighters lifting some 30 tonnes of king crabs are routed from Lakselv Banak Airport with fuel stops at Nizhnevartovsk and Irkutsk to Incheon, South Korea.
So far, four similar operation have been performed from Lakselv.
Until now, exports of Norwegian fresh king crabs have been taken by truck or even by an AN-12 freighter to Oslo Airport for onward carriage on scheduled carriers, but the direct flights to South Korea significantly reduces the total travel time and extends the shelf life of the perishable commodity.
