Feb 01, 2016 (newstodate): In the plans of the Lithuanian leisure carrier Small Planet Airlines is the continued expansion of the aircraft fleet.
-In summer 2015, Small Planet Airlines operated a total of 18 Airbus A320 aircraft, including the two aircraft on a management contract with Libyan Airlines, says Simonas Bartkus, Small Planet Airlines CCO.
-By the end of the summer season 2015, the fleet was down to 15 aircraft after the re-delivery of some aircraft to their owners. But for the summer 2016 we expect to go up to 20 aircraft, and we actually plan to grow the fleet by about two aircraft every year.
-As of now, all aircraft are Airbus A320 on lease contracts, but looking ahead the larger A321 will become an option. Nothing has been signed yet, but I would expect the aircraft type to be added to our fleet in 2016 as some customers will need more capacity, and slot restrictions apply for instance at London Gatwick that is a destination much in demand in the Polish market, says Mr Bartkus.
As in earlier years, Small Planet Airlines moves capacity between Europe and Asia on a seasonal basis to outbalance the changes in demand during summer and winter periods and thus optimizing the utilization of the aircraft fleet.
Also this winter, four Airbus A320 aircraft from Small Planet Airlines are placed in Cambodia to serve with the Cambodian carrier Sky Angkor on routes to China and South Korea under a cooperation launched in 2014.
