Feb 10, 2016 (newstodate): Hungary's government has reportedly decided to support the establishing of a new national airline.
The country has been without a national airline since the demise of Malev from February 4, 2012 after almost 66 years of service.
The new Hungarian carrier under consideration will have a fleet of six Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, and beside the aircraft deliveries the Russian partner will also support the new carrier financially, presumably through a lenient leasing contract, according to the Hungarian news portal Hirado 24.
The model superficially resembles the aborted attempt to sneak the Superjet 100 into the fleet of the Latvian carrier airBaltic in connection with the injection of fresh capital by a German investor in a deal now confirmed by the Latvian government.
The government, however, made it a precondition that airBaltic and its affiliated companies are prohibited from purchasing, renting or otherwise utilizing equipment produced by military industrial complexes and their affiliates subject to sanctions imposed by the European Union or the international community and ratified by Latvia.
