Feb 03, 2016 (newstodate): Qatar Airways has become a leading cargo carrier serving Norway's large seafood export industry.
In the week starting February 8, 2016, the carrier will be offering a total of 15 services from Oslo to Doha, including nine Boeing 787 passenger aircraft offering belly capacity, and six Airbus A330-200F freighter flying into Oslo from other European airports on return flights to Doha.
The massive impact by Qatar Airways is clearly seen from IATA's monthly CASS reports showing that the airline is now #1 on the Top-10 list.
In the 12-months period November 2014-October 2015, Qatar Airways Cargo thus carried a total of 21,805 tonnes of cargo, increasing 14.82 percent, y-o-y, and holding a market share at 14.08 percent.
Another Gulf carrier, Emirates was however close on its heels with an increase in volumes by 85.66 percent, y-o-y, to 19,747 tonnes and a market share at 12.75 percent.
The steep increase by Emirates should be against the fact the carrier launched flights between Dubai and Oslo only from September 2, 2014, but it certainly did catch up pretty fast...
