Feb 17, 2016 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic may at long last be confident that the first CS300 aircraft will indeed be delivered by the second half of this year, probably by September 2016.
Bombardier has now put the first CS300 on the assembly line for its launch customer, and the certification of the aircraft will then take place during Q2, 2016, to meet the deadline.
The CS300 performed its first test flight on 27 February 27, 2015, and will compete in the market with new aircraft like the Boeing 737 MAX 7 and the Airbus A319 NEO.
The CS programs have however been marred by repeated delays and snags and are still in need for fresh investments to secure continued development.
Running years later than originally planned, airBaltic expects to have 10 CS300 aircraft flying before the end of 2016 and has so far placed firm orders for 13 aircraft of the type, enabling the carrier to phase out its current fleet of eight Boeing 737-300 and five Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
