Feb 08, 2016 (newstodate): Cargo statistics January 2016 from Finnair show an over-all positive picture of the carrier's performance.
A total of 10,742 tonnes of cargo was carried on passenger and freighter aircraft, which was an increase by 14.9 percent, y-o-y.
Loads on the airline's passenger flights increased by 15.1 percent to 9,400 tonnes while loads on purchased and shared traffic were up by 13.8 percent to 1,343 tonnes.
From the turn of the year 2014/15, Finnair ceased own freighter traffic, now sharing capacity with BA on a freighter, operated by DHL, twice-weekly between Helsinki and London as well as contracting DHL to provide cargo uplift between Helsinki and Brussels, also operated two times weekly.
All segments showed positive growth in January 2016, not least the Asian traffic that was up 16 percent to 6,758 tonnes, and the European traffic was also up by 12.4 percent to 1,764 tonnes.
In January-December 2015, the carrier generated a total of 130,697 tonnes of cargo, down 12,4 percent, y-o-y, managing only a slight increase by 0.2 percent in the crucial Asian volumes that landed at 82,202 tonnes.
