Feb 24, 2016 (newstodate): Already starting from March 2016, Odense Airport will see the start of new air services as the first part of a series of projects.
Icelandic national Einar Adalsteinsson has set up Northern Aviation Group as a holding company with HQs at Odense Airport, with plans to establish several aviation and aviation-related projects.
Already now, the group has placed one Beechcraft King Air aircraft at the airport to launch ad-hoc charter operations from March 2016 targeting the business community at Central Denmark's Funen Island.
Northern Aviation Group will perform as a virtual airline, with the aircraft operating on the AOC of the Group's partner who owns the aircraft.
-But it does not stop there. We are currently evaluating various aircraft types to select a 50-seat aircraft to launch scheduled and charter services from Odense Airport to destinations in the UK, Sweden and Norway from mid-May 2016, says Mr Adalsteinsson.
-Under evaluation are aircraft types including Embraer CRJ, ATR, SAAB or RJ85 and we will soon make a decision on this issue. Again, we will start out with the aircraft placed on the operator's AOC but all documentation is actually prepared for us to file an application with the Danish CAA for issuance of our own AOC at the appropriate time, says Mr Adalsteinsson.
As reported by newstodate yesterday, a new Finnish carrier under formation, Go! Aviation is also planning for start of scheduled flights from Helsinki to Odense Airport.
If these projects are carried through it would signal a return of life to Odense Airport that has been without scheduled services since the end of 1998 when domestic flights by Maersk Air between Copenhagen Airport and Odense Airport were closed down.
Since then, the airport has seen only limited leisure flight operations, ad-hoc charters, corporate and private aircraft operations.
