Feb 16, 2016 (newstodate): The new Baltic carrier, the Estonian company Nordic Aviation is now taking steps from being a virtual carrier to operating as an airline on its own.
The airline has been granted its AOC from the Estonian aviation authorities, and has placed its second Bombardier CRJ700, delivered earlier this month, on its own registration while the first CRJ700 aircraft, delivered in January 2016, still operates on partner airline Adria Airways' AOC.
Next to come are three CRJ900 aircraft now held by the likewise state-owned company Transpordi Varahaldus, who took over the leasing contract from the original financier, Export Development Canada as Estonian Air folded its wings in autumn 2015.
In total, Nordic Aviation plans to have up to six CRJ700/CRJ900 aircraft in the fleet in summer 2016, when the carrier will also operate under its coming new, yet-unannounced brand name.
The carrier will, however, continue to operate in cooperation with its strategic partner Adria Airways that also provides the commercial platform for Nordic Aviation's sales and marketing.
Nordic Aviation was founded on September 25, 2015, by the decision of the Estonian Government, and performed its first flight on November 8, 2015, as Estonian Air was grounded.
