Dec 13, 2016 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport will see the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as a regular guest from summer 2017.
Uzbekistan Airways is placing its first of two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft in commercial service from October 2016, with the routes from Tashkent to Dubai, Sharjah, and Tel Aviv as the first to be served with the new aircraft.
New routes are to added in the Summer 2017 schedule, including also the twice-weekly route to New York via Riga Airport.
So far, doubts were that the carrier might cut out the en-route stop at Riga Airport as the Boeing 787 aircraft would be fully capable of operating the route as a non-stop flight.
Uzbekistan Airways has been using Riga Airport as a transit hub on its flights between Tashkent and New York since October 31, 2004, operating Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on two weekly rotations on the route.
