Dec 16, 2016 (newstodate): Two Scandinavian airport are preparing for an expected strong growth in passenger figures: Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden and Denmark's Copenhagen Airport.
In both cases, passenger figures rising to some 40 mio in 20 years are envisaged, and at both airports a strong development in airport infrastructure will be needed to accommodate the increase in traffic.
In the case of Stockholm Arlanda, plans include the construction of a new fourth runway, while in the of Denmark plans are to stick to the existing two runways while decommissioning an existing third runway that runs across the two other and is used mainly under adverse wind conditions.
The decommissioning of the third runway at Copenhagen Airport will free space for expanding with construction of a new terminal as well as expanding the existing Terminal B in an effort to increase the number of departure gates, aircraft parking stands and other pertinent infrastructure elements.
More details on the planned new development at Copenhagen Airport will be presented at a press conference later today.
In 2015, Stockholm Arlanda Airport handled a total of 23,173,457 passengers, and total passenger figures at Copenhagen Airport reached 26,610,332.
By the end of this year's Q3, Stockholm Arlanda Airport had handled a total of 22,819,000 and Copenhagen Airport 26,963,608 passengers
