Dec 20, 2016 (newstodate): Prospects for the return of a warmer political climate between Norway and China bode well for Norway's seafood exports.
Before 2010 and the crisis over the Nobel Prize to a Chinese dissident, Norway provided some 90 percent of China's fresh salmon imports, but this proportion since declined to less than 30 percent - and came to almost a full stop despite efforts to slide-through shipments through certain back doors in the form of re-export through other markets and territories.
Now Norway's Foreign Minister has negotiated a full normalization of the diplomatic and other relations between the two countries, with the two countries issuing a joint press release on December 29, 2016.
The press release exposes Norway's ceremonial bow to Chinese requirements for respect and sovereignty, paving the road for resumption of trade and other activities.
With these efforts, Norway will soon be able to return to the Chinese market in full swing - and plans will also soon emerge for setting up new direct flight routes, including freighter operations.
