Dec 20, 2016 (newstodate): A new advanced air traffic surveillance radar equipment developed in Russia has been awarded its Type Certificate by Rosaviatsia on December 12, 2016.
Claimed to be capable of cutting commissioning and operational costs by half, the new advanced multilateration surveillance system has been tested at St Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport, notoriously for its complexity.
Researches carried out by Eurocontrol suggest that such systems can cut expenses of Air Navigation Service Providers for acquisition and operation of surveillance systems by 50 percent and have direct impact on air carriers, reducing their expenditures.
With its new certification, the Russian systems will become a direct competitor to similar western-made equipment at a low cost base.
