Dec 223 ,20165 (newstodate): Chinese capital is to find its way into Kyrgyzstan's civil aviation.
The Chinese carrier China Southern Airlines is to take 49 percent of the stake in Kyrgyzstan Airlines, today fully owned by the state.
With the latest revised issue of the EU aviation safety black list published in December 2016, Kyrgyzstan remains the only CIS country still barred from EU airspace since 2007, and all 13 air carriers certified by the authorities with responsibility for regulatory oversight of the Kyrgyz Republic remain forbidden to operate flights on Kyrgyzstan-registered aircraft into the EU markets.
In 2016, the Kyrgyz government passed a Government Program of the Kyrgyz Republic for the development of civil aviation in the years 2016-2020, and much effort has been invested in upgrading Bishkek's Manas Airport to comply with international standards through acquisition and implementation of new equipment and infrastructure.
As a recent move, the country's Ministry of Transportation has approved that Kyrgyz airline may hire foreign pilots to operate aircraft types that do not have sufficient supply of licensed Kyrgyz cockpit crews.
A sale of Kyrgyzstan Airlines to a foreign investor and strategic partner might be one solution to bring Kyrgyzstan back into the world of civil aviation.
