Dec 16, 2016 (newstodate): With ambitions for developing the airports infrastructure of Greenland over the coming years, hopes for new international flights are also growing in the country.
Speaking at the current Arctic Circle Forum in Quebec, Canada, a Greenland minister has disclosed plans for launch of flights within some years between Greenland and Canada as well as the USA by Canadian or US operators.
Among the plans for the country's airports, the runway at the capital airport at Nuuk will be extended to 1,800m, from today's 950m, allowing for operations with aircraft the size of Airbus A320/Boeing 737.
Still looming on the horizon while currently put on hold are also plans for Sky Greenland to launch flights between Greenland and destinations in Canada.
