Dec 22, 2016 (newstodate): Will Greenland see the launch of its first low-cost carrier in 2017? At least one project, Aluu Airlines is still striving to find new ground after earlier attempts were aborted.
After recently losing its bid on service contracts with Greenland's government for domestic flights, Aluu Airlines has emerged with cautious news on facebook, its preferred channel of communication. But providing few, rather no, details..
-The ambitions are still there, but after losing the tender the company has been winded down and is now surviving only as a personal one-man enterprise, says Pele Broberg.
-This does not mean, however, that we have given up entirely. All focus is currently on finding a viable solution to the huge financial challenges in setting up Aluu Airlines.
-Talks are going on with potential investors and as long as this process has not been completed I will not be able to make any comments or provide any details on our business case.
-Suffice it to say that a solution must be found in the not-too-distant future as we will otherwise be forced to close down entirely, says Mr Broberg.
-Our launch of services was to be financed by our partners, and we still have the option of cooperating with them, but as of now we will dedicate our efforts to plans for starting out with fixed-wing aircraft, the company says on fb.
At least the earlier business plan envisaged both domestic flights in Greenland as well as flights on the Transatlantic route between Denmark and Greenland.
