Dec 02, 2016 (newstodate): Some 2,000 people at an event in Riga on December 1, 2016, including a president and a minister of transport, can now testify that the Latvian carrier airBaltic has become the first airline in the world to have the Bombardier CS300 in its fleet.
The aircraft landed at Riga Airport on November 30 and will now perform its first commercial fight on December 14, on the route between Riga and Amsterdam.
The CS300 will boost the airline's capacity to operate longer routes at higher speed, lower fuel-consumption and lower levels of emissions.
The next two CS300 aircraft for airBaltic are now being readied for delivery as part of the 20 aircraft order placed by the carrier.
With a total of 145 passengers on board, the aircraft will have a cargo capacity about 1-1.5 tonnes, roughly on a par with the Boeing 737 it will replace.
