Dec 12, 2016 (newstodate): With the latest revised issue of the EU aviation safety black list published in December 2016, Kyrgyzstan remains the only CIS country still barred from EU airspace since 2007.
While Kazakhstan managed to come off the list of countries, all 13 air carriers certified by the authorities with responsibility for regulatory oversight of the Kyrgyz Republic remain forbidden to operate flights on Kyrgyz-registered aircraft into the EU markets.
Kyrgyzstan had placed a high priority on developing its civil aviation business to comply with ICAO and other pertinent standards - and be lifted off the EU Black List before the end of 2016.
The Kyrgyz government thus passed a Government Program of the Kyrgyz Republic for the development of civil aviation in the years 2016-2020, and much effort has been invested in upgrading Bishkek's Manas Airport to comply with international standards through acquisition and implementation of new equipment and infrastructure.
As a recent move, the country's Ministry of Transportation has approved that Kyrgyz airline may hire foreign pilots to operate aircraft types that do not have sufficient supply of licensed Kyrgyz cockpit crews.
