Dec 02, 2016 (newstodate): After taking delivery of its first Bombardier CS300 aircraft, the Latvian launch customer airBaltic is now looking forward to the continued build-up of its new aircraft fleet.
The second CS300 aircraft is slated for delivery by end of December 2016/early January 2017, and airBaltic plans to have six aircraft in the fleet by the end of 2017, eight in 2018 and the remaining aircraft delivered in 2019.
Going eventually for an all-Bombardier fleet, airBaltic will have a total of 34 aircraft in 2021 according to the current strategy plan, leaving the decision open whether to go for two more Q400 and two more CS300 aircraft.
With the new CS300 aircraft, airBaltic will have the opportunity to open up new longer routes with up to six-seven hours flying time to Russia, the CIS region, the Gulf region as well as charter operations to the Canary Islands and other leisure destinations.
The existing Boeing 737 fleet will be phased out gradually as deliveries of CS300 take effect, and all Boeing aircraft would be out by 2020.
Of the 13 Boeing 737 aircraft, nine are owned by airBaltic, and four leased.
