Nov 23, 2016 (newstodate): Plans for direct cargo flights from China to Estonia are now materializing.
On November 22, 2016, the Russian carrier Aviastar-TU has performed its first flight from Changchun, in Manchuria, to Tallinn with an en-route stop at Kemerovo International Airport.
In the short term, plans are to perform a series of twice-weekly rotations on the route so far till December 29, 2016.
The freighter traffic is driven by imports of Chinese e-commodities for onward distribution via Tallinn Airport to markets in the Baltic, Russian and other European markets.
In September 2015, the Estonian state-owned postal company Omniva's subsidiary Post11 signed an agreement with S.F. Express to bring Chinese e-commerce goods into Tallinn Airport for onward distribution.
