Nov 15, 2016 (newstodate): 2016 has been a good year for the Lithuanian ACMI provider Avion Express that expects the current trend to extend into 2017 as well.
-Business has been rather good in 2016, and while there is definitely competition in this market as well, demand still outweighs the capacity offered, so we are quite satisfied, says Aleksei Lupitski, Avion Express Managing Director.
-The summer season is just over and we are now planning for the winter schedule, which means performing a series of scheduled maintenance jobs on the aircraft, readying the fleet for the next season.
-To optimize the utilization of the aircraft, we have set up a subsidiary in the Dominican Republic, Dominican Wings based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and established in 2015. So far, one of our Airbus A320 aircraft has been allocated to Dominican Wings, and we are now making plans for dispatching more aircraft to Dominican Wings for charter and ACMI operations in the Caribbean region. Also two of our aircraft have been put on a seasonal ACMI contract with Cambodia's Sky Angkor Airlines.
-In the fleet now are 11 Airbus A320 and one Airbus A319 aircraft. One Airbus A320 will be returned to the leasing company in 2017, but we are planning to add two or three more aircraft to the fleet in 2017, says Mr Lupitski.
Avion Express employs some 75 staff at its HQs in Vilnius, in addition to about 300 cockpit and cabin crew members.
Formerly named Nordic Solutions, the company was taken over in 2008 by the Icelandic Avion Group when the owners of Nordic Solutions that provided in-night logistics went bankrupt.
In 2010, Avion Express was acquired by French investment company Eyjafjoll SAS, formed by Avion Capital Partners of Switzerland together with strategic investors from the industry, and the new business model was focussed on the ACMI industry.
Avion Express took delivery of its first Airbus A320 aircraft in April 2011.
