Nov 09, 2016 (newstodate): Airbus' programs for freighter conversions of the Airbus A330-300 and A330-200 passenger aircraft are moving forward as planned.
-The conversion program for the larger A330-300P2F was launched by DHL that will get the first of four A330-300P2F freighters before end of 2017, says Wolfgang Schmid, EFW VP Sales and Marketing for Freighter Conversions
-The program is on schedule: the first aircraft is already cut and got its door frame and parts of the new floor structure incorporated. In other words, it is now undergoing the physical conversion. The structural phase is planned to be finished before February 2017.
-As for the A330-200P2F, this program is advancing as well with Egypt Air already announced as the launch customer with two aircraft, and a third aircraft added in the meantime. This P2F program will come second after the A330-300P2F program, starting conversion in April 2017.
-The first converted A321 aircraft will fly by the end of 2018, no contracts have yet been signed but there is a huge interest in the market, and this program is also on track.
-The A321P2F with 14 main-deck positions plus 10 belly container positions will be able to carry up to 27 tonnes over 1,900nm. If you add up the total containerized volume, it equals the volume of more than 16.5 upper deck containers, or more than the maximum of 15 a Boeing 757 can hold!
-As for the A320P2F, this program will not run before end of 2019, or early 2020, so there is still an ongoing discussion with interested parties concerning the specifications and the design, says Mr Schmid.
