Nov 09, 2016 (newstodate): Even before its first commercial flight, a new Norwegian carrier is airing plans for acquisition of a fleet of jet aircraft.
According to a Norwegian aviation media, FlyViking, owner and managed by Ole Gjaver, the company is in the market for acquisition of up to 10 aircraft the size of either Embraer E-jet or Bombardier CS aircraft.
Plans are to introduce these aircraft on domestic routes in the northern and western parts of Norway.
The LCC Norwegian has announced its retreat from several of these routes that are not profitably served with Boeing 737 type aircraft, and if plans hold true, FlyViking will cooperate with Norwegian to take over operations in these segments.
FlyViking's earlier plans called for a fleet of Dash 8 turboprop aircraft to compete with flights by Norway's dominating domestic carrier Wideroe on thin routes in the country.
