Nov 22, 2016 (newstodate): In contrast to not few other carriers, the Icelandic cargo ACMI carrier Bluebird Cargo has managed to be operating profitably for the last three years, expecting to close 2016 profitably as well.
-Profitability remains our main goal, so we are taking a rather conservative approach towards the market, says Steinn Logi Bjornsson, Bluebird Cargo Chairman of the Board.
-In the fleet now are six freighters, all on contracts with integrators. Four are Boeing 737-300 and two are Boeing 737-40 converted freighters.
-In 2017 we will redeliver three aircraft and plan to take in another three that will be Boeing 737-400 converted freighters as preferred to the -300 aircraft by the integrators as they allow more pallet positions.
-We are following the market closely, so if more capacity is requested by customers we will be in a position to respond to that as well.
-Besides operating our fleet for integrator customers, Bluebird Cargo performs ad-hoc and charter operations, and in addition we are also operating an own route to Iceland from Liege and Dublin.
-So 2016 has been more or less business as usual which is quite satisfactory for us, and we do not foresee any major changes to that as we look into 2017, says Mr Bjornsson.
The operations of Bluebird Cargo are headed by Skuli Skulasson as managing director.
