Nov 23, 2016 (newstodate): Norway is the undisputed leader on the list of scheduled commercial freighter operations into the four Nordic capital airports in 2016.
The country's ever-growing export of seafood has made salmon Europe's largest airfreight commodity and this attracts a growing list of cargo carriers into Oslo Airport, with the process gaining strong momentum in 2016 especially.
The airport now has 12 weekly freighter operations including four by Qatar Airways Cargo, four by Korean Cargo, two by AirBridgeCargo and one each by Emirates Cargo and Cargolux.
Second on the list of commercial freighter operations into Nordic capital airports is Copenhagen Airport with eight weekly calls including three by China Cargo Airlines, two by Etihad Cargo, two by Singapore Airlines Cargo, and one by Emirates Cargo.
Singapore Airlines Cargo has however announced a stop to its freighter service at Copenhagen by the end of this year, which will deduct two cargo operations from the list, bringing the airport on a par with Finland's Helsinki Airport.
In addition to Emirates' once-weekly dedicated freighter to Copenhagen Airport, the carrier is also routing a varying number of freighters through Copenhagen Airport as an en-route stop on flights between Dubai and destinations in the USA.
These freighters allow for some uptake of cargo at the airport, albeit not on a scheduled basis.
Helsinki Airport is currently #3 on the list, with six weekly cargo operations including three each by Turkish Cargo and AirBridgeCargo.
Rounding off the Nordic race for cargo operations is Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport with five weekly freighters including three by Korean Cargo and two by Turkish Cargo.
In addition to the scheduled commercial freighter operations, the Nordic capital airports are also seeing significant volumes of operations by the integrators, that are however not comprised by this oversight.
