Nov 01, 2016 (newstodate): Today marks the start of services by Cargolux at Norway's Oslo Airport, adding to the uplift capacity serving the country's seafood exports.
-With the addition of Cargolux' weekly freighter on Tuesdays, we might say that demand for freighter capacity on this weekly is just about saturated, says Martin Langaas, Avinor Cargo Director.
-On Tuesdays we now have a total of no less than five freighter operations, namely two by Qatar Airways, and one by Emirates, Korean and now also Cargolux, respectively.
-What would be needed now are more freighter services on weekends, allowing for transport of seafood to the market places arriving fresh on the early weekdays.
-The volumes of Norwegian seafood exports by air are really booming; if today some 30 percent of the volumes are lifted by air and the remaining 70 percent by trucks we would drop to some 28 percent by air if we cannot add at least two more weekly freighters per year. The new Cargolux flight will correspond to "only" some five or six percent of the market that is really enormous - and growing by some 10-15 percent per year, says Mr Langaa.s
