Nov 04, 2016 (newstodate): Finnair is planning for its first-ever passenger flights on a new route to Kazakhstan.
In connection to the World Expo 2017 in the Kazakh capital Astana, Finnair will be offering two weekly flights between Helsinki and Astana, from June 20 to August 11, 2017, using airbus A319 aircraft.
The World Expo is expected to draw millions of visitors, and Finnair's offer will provide transit through Helsinki Airport for incoming passengers from North America and Europe.
To enhance access for foreign carriers during the World Expo, Kazakhstan has launched an open skies-experiment for airlines.
At least till the end of this period, airlines may freely operate flights on routes to and from Kazakhstan, regardless of existing air services agreement or other limitations.
The country will then analyze the experience gathered during this period as part of the basis for introducing a permanent open skies regime at a later date.
