Nov 08, 2016 (newstodate): The Estonian carrier Nordica has succeeded where most other regional carrier have failed: tying up with a strategic partner, in this case the Polish airline LOT.
-It's well-known that several regional carriers are seeking strategic partnerships, including for instance airBaltic that has, however, so far only managed to find a financial partner, says Sven Kukemelk, CEO at Regional Jet, Nordica's subsidiary and capacity provider with own AOC comprising two CRJ700 and four CRJ900 aircraft.
-With LOT holding 49 percent of the stake in Regional Jet, a new chapter has opened for the continued consolidation and accelerated growth of our scope of business, generating new synergies for both partners, far beyond what we could have achieved on our own.
-We are now to serve our key customers, Nordica and LOT with capacity as needed for their network requirements, but beyond this Regional Jet remains fully independent in seeking ACMI contracts with other airlines tendering flight services contract as we have indeed already in 2016, with flight operations for airlines including SAS, NextJet and Austrian during the summer period.
-With the new opportunities before us, more aircraft will be needed, and we are already in talks with various leasing companies as well as with Embraer as we are to continue building capacity with CRJ aircraft.
-In the immediate future we are planning to add three more CRJ aircraft in 2017, but we are expecting to expand the fleet to 20 aircraft by 2020, says Mr Kukemelk.
As a first result from the tie-up with LOT, Regional Jet will base two of its aircraft at Warsaw to operate LOT's routes to Tallinn, Arlanda and Moscow Vnukovo, while LOT will base on Embraer aircraft at Tallinn to operate Nordica's route to Munich.
Almost all of Nordica's flights are now provided by aircraft from Regional Jet while the routes between Orebro and Copenhagen and the route between Copenhagen and Groningen are still operated with aircraft by BMI.
