Nov 21, 2016 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport now claims to offer the longest runway in the Baltic region, after completing the large-scale construction work started in May 2016.
The runway now has a length of 3,480m, equipped with new a new lighting system, water drainage system and other pertinent infrastructure.
The eastern end of the airport will be have an additional de-icing area, an aircraft motor testing area and new aircraft parking stands.
Work on snow collecting areas and construction of new rain water systems is due to continue next year.
But - the claim by Tallinn Airport to have now the region's longest runway may be disputed by Lithuania's Siauliai Airport that still beats Tallinn Airport by 20 meter!
