Nov 18, 2016 (newstodate): Counted together, cargo volumes at Sweden's three leading airports are clearly rising.
A total of 185,261 tonnes of cargo was handled at Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg Landvetter and Malmo Sturup Airport, an increase by 9.2 percent, y-o-y, during January-September 2016.
Rising the most and leading in volumes was Stockholm Arlanda that saw volumes up by 12.2 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 119,317 tonnes.
Progress was also noted by Gothenburg Airport that handled 43,668 tonnes, also up 4.7 percent.
At Malmo Airport, volumes rose less spectacularly by 3.1 percent to 22,276 tonnes.
While Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Airport may expect to see the positive trend continuing towards the end of the year, prospects for sustained growth at Malmo Airport are less promising after the decision by AirBridgeCargo to move its twice-weekly Boeing 747-8F freighter operation away from Malmo to Oslo Airport from November 15, 2016, leaving only Atran Airlines' weekly Boeing 737-400F freighter service to Moscow.
