Nov 18, 2016 (newstodate): While still maintaining the aim to be a global leader in aviation services, the Nordic company Aviator has announced its decision to pull out from (most of) the UK market.
-As part of a strategic review, and in conjunction with a number of the Group's key stakeholders, the Group is in the process of winding down the UK ground handling market in order to focus its attention on its core markets in the Nordic region, the company says in a release.
Already by November 30, 2016, Aviator will thus pull out from four UK airports London Gatwick, Newcastle, Birmingham and Edinburgh, keeping only its operations at Manchester.
While claiming that the basic vision to become "the world's greatest provider of aviation services" has not changed, Aviator will thus rein in its scope of operations to comprising only Manchester and 16 airport in the Nordic region.
As a result of Swissport's take-over in 2013 of Servisair, the ex-Servisair cargo companies at Helsinki Airport as well as at London Gatwick Airport and Newcastle Airport had to be divested by Swissport as part of the EU Commission's accept of the merger transaction - and these businesses were acquired by Aviator.
Aviator then added also handling activities at Manchester by April 1, 2014, and Edinburgh from June 2015, while Swissport's activities at Edinburgh were acquired in a separate deal in connection with the take-over of the former Servisair activities.
This latest decision to basically leave the UK market follows on a long row of departures from management positions by former leading Aviator personalities as well as a general reshuffling of staff.
Aviator is owned by the investment fund Accent Equity 2008 as the majority shareholder.
