Oct 05, 2016 (newstodate): Industry sources claim that the Icelandic LCC WOW Air is to close down flights on its routes launched only in 2016 from Iceland to San Francisco and Los Angeles, in the USA.
If sources are correct, the last flights will be performed by the end of the current winter 2016/17 schedule, end of March 2017.
WOW Air launched five weekly flights to San Francisco from June 9, 2016, and four weekly flights to Los Angeles from June 15, 2016, using Airbus A330-300 aircraft leased from the Spanish carrier AirEurope.
If flights to these two US destinations are suspended, WOW Air will still have flights to Boston, Washington DC, New York and Miami.
Only after deadline, newstodate received WOW Air's comments on the story:
-There is a grave misunderstanding in the article as WOW Air has no plans what so ever in retreating from any of its US destinations.
-If anything, WOW Air will increase its flights from the US, says Mara Margret Johannsdottir, WOW Air Project manager Public relations.
