Oct 26, 2016 (newstodate): Poland's Katowice Airport is seeing cargo volumes continuing to grow in 2016.
During the first nine months of 2016, the airport has handled 13,063 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 7.9 percent, y-o-y.
The airport is thus heading for another record year, probably surpassing last year's 16,119 tonnes of cargo.
The optimism is based not least on the opening of DHL Express' new terminal at the airport, but other integrators including TNT, FedEx and UPS are also reporting increasing traffic in 2016.
In May 2016, Katowice Airport commissioned its new cargo terminal after a construction period stretching from 2014.
The 5,700 sq m facility comprises 2,700 warehousing space and 3,320 sq m office space and is now housing the activities of DHL, Fedex, UPS and TNT, as well as a general cargo department.
The new terminal is one element in the airport's plans for a comprehensive cargo village at a future stage.
