Oct 28, 2016 (newstodate): The new Chairman of the Board at Estonia's Tallinn Airport has a focus on developing the air cargo volumes through the airport.
In the office only from July 2016, Piret Mrk-Dubout recently told a Estonian media of her visions for growing the airport's air cargo business.
-More than 16,000 tonnes of freight was transported via the airport last year. There is a possibility here to multiply this volume these are possibilities that we are charting with freight transporters right now, Ms Mrk-Dubout said in the interview.
-Lithuania and Latvia are very actively developing air freight transport on the level of the state. However, the big advantage Estonia has is Omniva's cooperation with the Chinese company SF Express.
-Their Post11 already now brings goods from China to Tallinn airport and delivers them to clients not only in Estonia but also in the Nordic countries and Russia.
In some contrast to this positive view on cargo potentials at Tallinn Airport stand the facts that while total volumes in 2015 did land at 16,156 tonnes, it was still 18.7 percent down on the preceding year.
And during the first nine months of 2016, the trend remains negative with a decline in volumes by 15.1 percent, y-o-y, to 9,504 tonnes.
