Oct 07, 2016 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier Smartlynx is now heating up for another winter season.
During the coming winter schedule, the carrier will operate flight flights to 12 destinations from Riga and Tallinn.
Flights are operated in cooperation with tour operators in the Baltic region including Novatours, Tez Tour and Aurinko, but flights will also be offered to other tour operators including Thomas Cook and the TUI Group.
Alongside the charter operations, SmartLynx will continue its other activities including ACMI offerings to airlines around the world.
In the fleet of SmartLynx now are 12 Airbus aircraft including 11 A320 and one A321 aircraft, but plans are on the table for adding more aircraft capacity.
Based at Riga Airport, SmartLynx Airlines was acquired by the Icelandair Group in 2006, but was put up for sale in 2011 as the Icelandair Group formulated the strategy of returning to core business, and is now purely Latvian-owned after a management buy-out and managed by Omar Benediktsson as CEO.
