Oct 26, 2016 (newstodate): The airport of Georgia are seeing a brisk increase in passenger volumes in 2016.
In the first nine months, total passenger volumes were up by 23 percent, y-o-y, to 2,182,000 passengers.
The capital's Tbilisi Airport is now served by 31 airlines with flights to and from 36 destinations; three more have announced launch of new services before the end of this year, and the airport accounts for 79.1 percent of the total passengers.
At the country's Black Sea coast, Batumi Airport generates 12.4 percent of the total pax volumes, with 16 airlines providing services, and finally Kutaisi Airport, mid-way between Tbilisi and Batumi, accounts for 8.4 percent of the passengers in Georgian airports, with the traffic primarily consisting of low-cost services with four carriers providing flights.
At Kutaisi, Wizz Air opened a base in September 2016, planning to offer flights to a range of destinations including Berlin, Munich, Milan, Dortmund, Thessaloniki, Larnaca and Sofia in addition to its existing routes to Warsaw, Katowice, Budapest, and Vilnius.
