Oct 27, 2017 (newstodate): Finnair is struggling to cope with a shortage of pilots available for daily operations as their Airbus A350 training programs gain momentum.
The carrier has thus been forced to charter external providers to secure capacity, frequencies have been adjusted - and flights temporarily suspended.
One latest result is the decision to suspend services on the route between Helsinki and Chongqing, in China, from January 11, 2017 to May 2, 2017, to create adequate room for pilot training for its A350 operations.
Starting from May 9, 2012, Finnair became the first European airline to offer direct flights to Chongqing, with four weekly Airbus A340 rotations.
Other measures to adjust the traffic program to accommodate for the A350 pilot training scheme include a two month wet-lease on Finnair's New York route and a cancellation of some of Finnair's flights to Nagoya in the spring of 2017.
