Oct 13, 2016 (newstodate): Airlines are increasingly focusing on the transportation of pharmaceuticals that are high-yield sensitive shipments requiring enhanced quality and special procedures.
Confusion reigns, however, on which certification to select by carriers engaging with the pharma business.
For its part, Finnair Cargo decided in 2015 to build its business on IATA's CEIV Pharma certification, playing a strong role in BRUcargo pharma certification program with 11 participating companies also including Brussels Airlines Cargo, Aviapartner, Swissport, WFS, AD Handling, BPL, Expeditors, UTi, SDV, and the trucking company Jan de Rijk.
At a brief ceremony at Finnair's HQs on June 30, 2015, Finnair Cargo was awarded IATA's PHARMA certificate as the first airline in the world.
-As the standard was planned in close cooperation with Pharmaceutical companies, we are comfortable in developing our processes in accordance with CEIV standard, says Fredrik Wildtgrube, Finnair Cargo Head of Global Sales.
-Allowing pharmaceutical products to serve their primary purpose is essential for Finnair Cargo. We strongly believe that the CEIV standard is supporting us on exactly that mission.
-According to our findings, CEIV is compatible with, and even exceeds some of the already existing standards and guidelines, such as IATA Temperature Control Regulations, TCR, and the EU Good Distribution Practices, EU GDP, just to name a few.
-We now see other airlines, ground handling agents and stakeholders walking in our footsteps, convincing us that other cargo aviation industry stakeholders share Finnair Cargo's understanding about CEIV.
-However we are not done yet. Finnair Cargo will continue to develop its service offering to the pharmaceutical industry also in the future, says Mr Wildtgrube.
