Oct 11, 2016 (newstodate): SAS is currently holding a press conference in Torshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands.
The conference breaks the news of the launch from April 27, 2017, of flights from Copenhagen Airport to Vagar Airport, offering 12 weekly services with Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
So far, the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has been alone in providing air services on the crucial route connecting Denmark and the Faroe Islands, also with daily Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
The new SAS service to the Faroe Islands is the airline's first such operation.
Flights on the route were started in 1988 by Atlantic Airways, and until 2004 Maersk Air also operated flights between Vagar and Copenhagen.
Another attempt to serve the route was realized by the privately-owned FaroeJet that launched flights with a single Avro RJ-100 on May 15, 2006, but folded its wings on December 17, 2006, already.
