Oct 27, 2016 (newstodate): Officially opened on May 30, 2016, the 4th international airport to serve the Moscow area, Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport has not been too successful with its first cargo airline customers.
Zhukovsky Airport was selected by the country's newcomer to the cargo industry, Sky Gates Airlines to serve as its hub for the coming Boeing 747-400F freighter fleet starting operations from this month, but the carrier has now decided to move operations instead to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport as Zhukovsky has still not completed the pertinent cargo terminal infrastructure.
According to the current plans, the cargo terminal will however not be commissioned until autumn 2017, by which time Sky Gates Airlines expects to be operating three Boeing 747 freighter aircraft on routes between Russia and destinations in Asia.
For the same reason, another cargo carrier Aviastar-TU with a fleet comprising three TU-204F aircraft will also move operations to Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo instead of Zhukovsky, as originally planned.
Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport has two runways, one of which is the longest in Europe - 5,400m.
Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group holds 75 percent of the stake in the JV controlling Zhukovsky Airport.
