Oct 06, 2016 (newstodate): The coming second weekly freighter rotation by Turkish Cargo at Denmark's Billund Airport will add capacity to the Scandinavian markets - but only partly..
While the existing Sunday operation since April 10, 2016, will remain a dedicated flight between Billund and Istanbul with an Airbus A310-300F freighter wet-leased from ULS Airlines Cargo, the coming new Thursday flight from early November 2016 will be shared with Amsterdam on a routing Istanbul-Amsterdam-Billund-Istanbul, operated with Turkish Cargo's own Airbus A330-200F aircraft.
Capacity for exports from Billund will thus be shared with Amsterdam. But there is more to it.
-Turkish Airlines has reduced frequencies on a number of routes including routes to Scandinavia as well as Hamburg in Northern Germany. The second freighter rotation will thus add new capacity as well as covering up for some of the belly load capacity on the carrier's passenger flights, says Cem Kavas, Turkish Airlines Regional Cargo Manager Denmark.
For this winter schedule, Turkish Airlines has cut flights from Istanbul to Copenhagen from 21 to 14 weekly, to Stockholm from 21 to 17, to Gothenburg from 14 to 10, to Oslo from 18 to 14, and to Hamburg from 21 to 14 rotations.
Turkish Airlines' flights from Istanbul to Billund during the coming winter schedule will be five weekly rotations as of today.
Serving Turkish Cargo as GSSA provider in the Scandinavia including the Danish market is NordicGSA.
