Jan 15, 2016 (newstodate): With the introduction of Airbus A380 on daily flights between Dubai and Copenhagen, Denmark, Emirates has obviously reduced the available flown cargo capacity on its passenger aircraft serving the route.
Representing the carrier as cargo GSSA in Scandinavia, ScanPartners however sees no major problems with the change away from the Boeing 777-300 that served the route until December 1, 2015.
-It is widely held misconception that the A380 will lift only some seven-eight tonnes of cargo with a full passenger load. This does not hold in this case, says Jens Heide, ScanPartners Int'l CEO and owner.
-The version used on the route to Denmark is a new two-class aircraft that can take much more cargo than the usual three-class version. Experience has already now proved that the issue is in the trimming of the aircraft, rather than an issue of weight of cargo.
-Already in December we have had flights with the Airbus A380 with full loads of passengers and yet up to some 15 tonnes of cargo. As experience builds up, the rate of utilization of the capacity of the aircraft will grow as well.
-Of course the A380 will still not compete in total cargo capacity with the Boeing 777-300 lifting some 20 tonnes, but in addition to the A380 uplift we have capacity on the freighters operating though Copenhagen Airport as well as on Emirates flights from other European airports. So all in all we are seeing our total cargo capacity fully capable of growing with the needs and demands in the Scandinavian markets, says Mr Heide.
Emirates made Copenhagen Airport its Scandinavian freighter hub from July 1, 2014, at times operating up to 11 weekly freighter operations at Copenhagen while this number is now down to some eight or nine, varying according to changing actual demands and potentials in various European markets.
