Jan 20, 2016 (newstodate): Behind a growth in total passenger volumes at Russia's Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, a changing trend is clearly discernible.
The airport did raise passenger throughput in 2015 to 31.6 mio passengers, but the main trend in the industry of Russia's air transportation was the redistribution of the tourism segment from international to domestic destinations in response to the Russian weak economy and the effect on tourism from several terrorist accidents around the world.
Passenger volumes on domestic flights at Sheremetyevo thus increased by 5.6 percent, y-o-y, to 13.8 million, while the passenger volumes on international flights dropped by 3.7 percent in 2015, to 17.8 mio.
In 2015, nine new airlines came to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, including Vueling Airlines, SmartWings, Sichuan Airlines, Ellinair, Azur Air, Air Moldova, Royal Flight, Air Atlanta Icelandic, and Severstal.
