Jan 29, 2016 (newstodate): The Lithuanian charter and ACMI carrier Small Planet Airlines is testing out a new venue in the Polish air travel market.
Starting from the end of May 2016, the carrier will be offering direct passenger sales on certain flights out of two Polish Airports, Warsaw and Katowice.
-This is not to be considered a new business model for Small Planet Airlines, rather a test to optimize the utilization of existing capacity on charter flights operated on behalf of Polish tour operators, says Simonas Bartkus, Small Planet Airport CCO.
-The flights comprise rotations on routes from Warsaw and Katowice to two Bulgarian and four Greek Islands summer destinations, all served by one weekly flight, with the bulk of seats bought by tour operators on blocked-space agreements.
-So what we are doing is basically to offer the excess capacity in the market on a seat-only basis in much the same way as low-cost carriers are doing. It will remain marginal and incremental business for us and is really just one example of our efforts to make the most out of existing opportunities while still playing it safe - and it will be in the market only during the summer season, says Mr Bartkus.
