Jan 19, 2016 (newstodate): 2015 was a record year for Lithuanian Airports the number of passengers handled during 12 months reached 4.2 million, up 11.3 percent, y-o-y.
For the first time since its opening in 1932, Vilnius Airport exceeded three million passengers, which was an increase by 13.4 percent compared to 2.9 million in 2014, and the passenger flow was also up 9.4 percent in Palanga, and 3.2 percent in Kaunas.
In the Baltic context, the Lithuanian airports play an increasingly important role, according to a release from Lithuanian Airports.
In 2015, the countrys three civil airports handled 36 percent of all air passengers after increasing by two percent per year in two years, whereas the share handled by Latvia's Riga Airport decreased from 47 percent in 2013 to 45 percent, and Estonia's Tallinn airport has been handling 19 percent of the Baltic region's air passengers.
To put the record straight: In 2015 Riga Airport handled a total of 5,162,675 passengers, up 7.2 percent, y-o-y, Vilnius Airport handled 3,336,083 passengers and increasing 13.4 percent, and Estonia's Tallinn Airport was up 7.4 percent to 2,166,663 passengers.
This makes Vilnius Airport the fastest-growing Baltic airport, while Riga Airport remains the region's undisputed largest international airport in 2015.
