Jan 29, 20q6 (newstodate): After two years with no fresh ink in the order book of the Airbus A380, the wheels are now turning again for the world's largest commercial passenger aircraft.
Airbus has landed a significant purchase order for the A380 from Iran that will take 12 of these aircraft for delivery by the end of the decade after the country's airport infrastructure has been upgraded to handling capacity levels sufficient to serve the large aircraft.
This order, however, still requires a solution to a range of issues including financing and lease contracts as well as clearance from the US authorities that maintain an embargo on many systems embedded in these and other Airbus types of aircraft.
Another order for three A380 aircraft has also now been confirmed by Airbus from the Japanese carrier ANA that will take delivery of the aircraft in 2019.
With the firm ANA order, Airbus has lifted the total number of A380 orders to 319 from 19 airlines worldwide, of which 179 A380 have been delivered to 13 airlines.
When the Iranian orders turn into firm commitments, the order book will thus increase to 331 Airbus A380 aircraft.
Besides the A380 order, Iran has also placed orders for 21 A320ceo family, 24 A320neo family, 27 A330ceo family, 18 A330neo (-900), and 16 A350-1000 aircraft.
