Jan 18, 2016 (newstodate): As most of the sanctions on Iran are now lifted, the country is widely expected to embark on a program for upgrading the country's commercial aircraft fleet, long overdue.
According to a Twitter message by Iran's president, the country will need up to 400 aircraft, and as a first move the country may sign a contract for delivery of 114 Airbus aircraft including presumably Airbus A320, A350 and A340 aircraft.
So far no official release by either Iran or Airbus has confirmed this order, but the president will come to France on a state visit on January 28, 2016, and a contract might likely be signed on this occasion.
It remains, next, to be seen which airlines will benefit from this state order, with Iran Air posing as a sure winner, while Mahan Air may still be excluded as the carrier is on the US black list because of alleged arms transportation to Syria despite the blockade.
