Jan 05, 2016 (newstodate): The enforcement from January 4, 2016, of stricter border control procedures between Denmark and Sweden as well as between Denmark and Germany is widely expected to create difficulties for operators in the transport sector.
While this may be felt especially by forwarders and hauliers, the express and integrator providers are no exceptions either.
-We are following developments closely and no doubt: the extra control procedures at Europe's internal borders will eventually translate into delays ranging from hours to days in the case of longer-haul road transportation, says Claus Lassen, DHL Express Denmark Managing Director.
-In the case of DHL Express Denmark, we are however in the favorable position that 80 percent of our shipments are actually flown, leaving only the remaining 20 percent to road transportation, primarily to and from Sweden.
-As of now we have not yet seen any problems with our traffic from Denmark into Sweden but we are obviously aware of the situation that is, however, beyond our direct control.
-Luckily, our traffic is mainly concentrated during the wee hours of the day, which keeps us from queuing up at the border inspection points. But delays may be foreseen, says Mr Lassen.
