Jan 12, 2016 (newstodate): The Icelandic cargo GSSA Cargo Express reports a healthy performance in 2015.
-2015 was another record year for us. Our export figures were up by 26 percent, y-o-y, even though total export figures out of Iceland were only up 3.4 percent. So we are clearly seeing our market share growing every year, says Robert Tomasson, Cargo Express managing director and owner of the company that launched business from December 1, 2008.
-For 2016, we are very optimistic. Our clients are expanding their networks to and from Iceland, not least WOW Air that is adding three Airbus A330 and three Airbus A321 aircraft from June onwards. This will increase our cargo capacity a lot and allow us to participate in new projects and new markets.
-The introduction of new North American destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal and Toronto, in addition to Boston and Baltimore as well as approximately 20 destinations in Europe will allow us to expand our reach not only to and from Iceland, but also for transit cargo across the Atlantic.
-We are already making preparations including adding more staff and updating our booking and reservation systems in to be ready for this expansion for 2016/17 and beyond, says Mr Tomasson.
Besides serving as cargo GSA for Norwegian and Air Berlin, Cargo Express is currently also in talks with a few other airlines about representation in Iceland, while contracts have not yet been inked.
