Jan 21, 2016 (newstodate): The Icelandic cargo ACMI and cargo charter carrier Bluebird Cargo is considering new aircraft acquisitions.
Today, the carrier operates a fleet of four Boeing 737-300 and two Boeing 737-400 converted freighters, with two aircraft to be redelivered to owners in 2017.
-We are already now looking into their replacement and at the same time considering options for adding more aircraft over the coming few years, says Steinn Logi Bjornsson, Bluebird Cargo Chairman of the Board.
-The aircraft we will go for will probably be Boeing 737-400 passenger aircraft for conversion. There is an ample supply of these aircraft in the market although the demand is also rising including from the integrators, probably reflecting somewhat on the market prices.
-We remain a highly opportunistic company, though. We never make any grandiose strategic plans with high expectations for growth rates. We rather stick to growing with our customers, but whenever there is an opportunity to grow we will certainly exploit it and have the capacity and resources to do so.
-All our aircraft are on firm contracts with integrators and in addition we optimize their use by charter operations whenever there is a window of opportunity between jobs contracted, says Mr Bjornsson.
